The People Who Have Had The Biggest Impact On My Faith

So lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the people I have met in my life, but most importantly the people who have shaped my relationship with the lord. Some of these people are those I have met before, have a relationship with or only met for a little while, and some are those I have not met in person! But for today, I want to talk about the people that I’ve known for awhile and are very close to me.

The first person is one of my youth leaders, Mrs. Teresa, or I prefer to call her Mama T! Mama T is one of the most joyful, bubbly, christ centered people I have ever met. She is one of the many people who helped me with my walk with God. I met Mama T 5 years ago when I first started going to the church I go to now, Friendship Community Church. I was still in a relationship with my first serious boyfriend, and it was the summer right before my 8th grade year. I had volunteered to help out with VBS at my aunt’s house and that’s where I met Mama T for the first time! Let me tell you, she lights up the room everywhere she goes! It is so hard to feel anything but happy and joyous when you are around her. She is also somebody that has helped me when I was going through a very rough time in my life, when I just didn’t see life worth living. She is one of the main people who have lead me to the relationship I now have with the Father.

The second person who has had a major, I mean, major, impact on my life was also another one of my youth leaders, Chris! I’m not going to use full names out of respect. Chris took over as youth pastor around the beginning of my sophomore year of high school. Him and his wife, Amy, were such a blessing and were huge impacts on my walk with the lord. I had decided I was going to lay my life down and give my all to the Lord when I was 15, a freshman in high school, but I wasn’t as strong in my faith as I am now. I was just getting to know God even better, learning his word more, because I have grown up in the church, but never had a true relationship with him. Anyway, we were at this event called Worship in the Woods where a bunch of churches go in the middle of the woods and there’s this giant open field where we do a christian concert full of worship! I remember standing up front, the song ‘ How He loves us, ‘ played and I felt God tell me in my heart, I felt like I could hear his voice saying, ‘ I love you, do not worry, you have purpose. ‘ That’s when I knew that I needed to change my life for the better, that I needed to work on my relationship with the Lord just as I did with my friendships and even boyfriends I ever had. If you want to hear more about my Testimony, click here.  Anyhow, after we all had sat down the pastor that preached that night said that if you felt like the Lord was calling you to him, if you wanted to build that relationship with him, that we needed to walk to the front of the stage so that he could pray over us. There were hundreds of kids up there! I was so nervous because I’m somebody who used to get really bad anxiety around a lot of people, even just standing and talking in front of more than one person makes me so nervous, so I asked my friend Briana to go up with me and we prayed. After that Chris had reached out to me a lot and through his messages every Wednesday night, I found that hole in my heart was to be filled with God’s love for me, not with earthly things.

The third person that has had a huge impact on my life is my friend Briana who was mentioned above. Briana and I were friends for about 2 years and we met through youth group! We would still be friends now, but she currently goes to a different church and goes to a private school across the states! Briana was somebody who made me realize my flaws and how to fix them. I was struggling really bad at the time with my weight, and so was she ( even though she was gorgeous the way she was ). This sounds like she was harming more than good, but she was actually doing good because if I hadn’t of gone through that hard time in my life, I wouldn’t be the same I am today. I was also struggling with self harm and other things but she encouraged me to get through it, and kept me accountable when helping me recover. If it wasn’t for her, I might not have ever stopped self harming, or at least not when I did.

The fourth person who has had a huge impact on my life is another friend named Sophie. Sophie is one of the sweetest and most down to earth girl I have ever met! She has inspired me to see the good in everyone, to be positive, and to seek the Lord in everything I do. I have known Sophie for about 5 years now and we met through my youth group! We also went to the same home school co op ( classes ) for a few years. Sophie is just so kind to everyone she meets, so thoughtful towards others feelings, and she has made me strive to be a better, more thoughtful, and kind person. I know she struggles with a lot of stuff, but somehow she always ends up smiling through it and I admire how the Lord’s work shines through her.

The fifth person is somebody who is even closer to me. They are a bit of a newer addition, but I have known them through growing my relationship with God. His name is Daniel. I met Daniel about 3 years ago through a friend and talked to him on social media for awhile. We only, about a month ago, got to meet in person, but he has made an impact on my life as well. Like Sophie, he is such a positive person, he always has something to say about tough situations that shines a light through them. He is somebody who has helped me a lot when I’m very anxious, sometimes for no reason at all. He’s been there when I’ve gone through some tough stuff, and when I’ve wanted to give up. When I’m going through a tough day and am feeling so negative, he will remind me who my father is, and how much greater he is than all the problems this world can give me.  Not only has he helped me with my relationship with the Lord, but he makes me think about things in a whole new perspective. He appreciates the little things in life, even just something like the craftsmanship of a chair, or the details of a table. For that, I am forever grateful that God has put him in my life.

The sixth person that has, strangely enough, impacted my relationship with the Lord is my ex boyfriend. I bet you weren’t expecting that one lol. Now, I’ve made mistakes that I wish sometimes I could take back, but about a year ago I’ve realized that if it weren’t for that relationship and those mistakes, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I don’t want to go into too much detail, as I have went into a little bit of it in my ‘ Testimony ‘ blog post. Basically, if it weren’t for that relationship and those mistakes I probably wouldn’t be eager for a Christ centered relationship like I am today, and I wouldn’t be able to use that experience to minister and share the gospel with other young girls today. It’s also been something I had struggled with handing over to God, and asking forgiveness for. Because of this relationship,  I don’t think I would have already learned what it means to hand it over to God, lay your burdens down, and to seek forgiveness with an honest heart.

So, there you go! Those are 6 of the people who have impacted my faith today and who I am in general! I hope you guys enjoyed this post, and if you feel comfortable, let me know in the comments who your top people are that have aided you in your relationship with the Lord! I hope y’all have a blessed day!

Hebrews 10:24

“Let us be concerned for one another, to help one another to show love and to do good.”
