Verses For Your Emotions

Have you ever scrolled through Pinterest, trying to look up gift ideas for a friend, or a significant other such as your boyfriend or girlfriend? Just me? It’s okay, I won’t tell anybody you do that too.
Anyway, so if you’re ” not ” familiar with what I’m talking about, there are tons of pins for ideas of gifts to give to somebody. One that I love so much, and definitely pinned in my board labeled ” Him,” for whenever I’m with ‘ him’ one day, is envelopes that are labeled ‘ for when you’re sad,’ or ‘ for when you’re angry.’ These envelopes contain a verse, a note, maybe a special memory from the giver to help them when they’re feeling those emotions. Well, this post is kind of like that, except not in a form of an envelope, and we’re certainly not in a relationship, unless you consider us friends of course!  Who knows, my soulmate could be reading this post right now.
Anywho, here are some verses and tips for when you’re feeling like 🙂 or :(

For When You’re Feeling Sad
Psalm 40:1-3 I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry.  He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.  He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him.
One tip I have for when you’re feeling sad, is to surround yourself with things that make you happy. Yes, this sounds easier than it is to do, trust me I know. Instead of laying in your bed feeling down, why don’t you plan something fun to do with some friends. Maybe plan to go shopping, go see a movie, if it’s nice outside maybe go to the park.

For When You’re Feeling Stressed
Proverbs 16:3
3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.
This one speaks to me personally because of my stress with school, trying to figure out where I’m going to college, what I’m going to do with my life. Last night when I was at youth we talked about Hope. One question my small group leader asked us was, ‘” What do you put your hope into, that should be God instead?” I said school, my grades. I put my all into those things and they are what I let define me, and judge whether I’m good enough or not, or put my hope into those things that I’ll be good enough to get into a college. My grades are how I feel people define me, especially my parents at times. One thing to remember, as this verse states, if you commit to the Lord and trust that he has a plan for you, he’ll follow you wherever you go, then he will establish your plans. No matter if you’re going to Harvard or a community college in town, God has a mighty plan for you as long as you put your hope and trust in him, not worldly things that are capable of letting you down.

For When You’re Feeling Anxious
I actually have two verses for this:
Isaiah 41:10
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Philippians 4:6-7“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

For When You’re Feeling Excited
With all these verses for when you’re feeling down, we’ve gotta have some for when you’re feeling good! Here’s one that’s one of my personal favorites that the girl Hannah in the bible says:
1 Samuel 2:1
Then Hannah prayed and said, “My heart exults in the LORD; My horn is exalted in the LORD, My mouth speaks boldly against my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your salvation.
I personally feel like this a prayer we should all be praying, especially when rejoicing in the good works of the Lord. I even try to pray like this when the Lord hasn’t yet answered my prayers, because I know that he will soon in his own time, when he thinks I’m ready.

For When You’re Feeling Suicidal
Now, this one is more of an emotional one because I know that every body in the world will feel like this at some point. Maybe more than others, but either way, there’s days when you feel like just not being here anymore. So here’s a few verses to get you through:
Isaiah 41:10
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Yes, I’m aware I already used that one, but I feel like that verse is so great for when you’re feeling like this.  But here’s some more:
Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
John 10:10
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
1 John 4:4
4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

For When You’re Feeling Alone
Proverbs 18:24
24 One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Deuteronomy 31:6
6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

For When You’re Feeling Happy/Joyful
1 John 3:18
18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
Romans 15:3
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

I hope those were helpful, and whenever you feel like any of those, feel free to come look this post up and It’ll be here 🙂 If you need to, copy them down onto paper or decorate them on some note cards and tape them around your room or even your whole house!
I hope y’all have a blessed day, and if you need any more verses for any other feelings, let me know and I’ll be happy to add to them!

Verse of the day:
1 Thessalonians 5:11
11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

BEFORE YOU GO:
I’ve linked a video down below that has helped me get through some tough times. It’s the song ” How he loves us,” but also has Matt Chandler in the background of one of his sermon’s. It’s so different than what you would first think it to be like, but it’s just so powerful, I can’t even describe it. Please just give it a quick listen, because it’s what keeps me going when I feel like I have no more energy in my body to keep going.
