Did you like my pun there?
No? Not really? Tough crowd.
Well, if you appreciated my pun, I appreciate you because I am not one to think of puns that fast except for the occasional grocery trip with my mom. Sometimes even by myself but hey, you’ve got to entertain yourself somehow!
Anyway, so the question I get just about every time I have makeup on my face is, ” What highlighter do you use?” Well here it is! Drumroll please……
It’s the Becca highlighter! I bet you probably guessed that because of how hyped that brand is. Fortunately, that brand is worth hyping about. I have tried, swatched, and experimented, with every highlighter I could get my hands on. I’ve tried drugstore, but most just had something that really deterred me from buying them ever again. I’ve even swatched all the beautiful highlighters in Sephora AND Ulta. I can tell you one thing for sure. That my Becca highlighter stood out from the rest. It’s got a nice consistency of slightly buttery, without being too smooth that you can see your finger print in it. Although one negative I can say is although it FEELS buttery, when you put your brush in, it kind of powders a little bit. However, that is not something that’s going to keep me away from the beautiful pigment and shine this highlighter has.
I use the shade ‘ Opal,’ which is a fairly universal shade. Before I started self tanning, it would look more of a golden, beige-y shade on me. After I’ve started tanning it’s more of a golden, white gold kind of color. So, if you’re somebody who is super fair, I recommend the shades ‘ Moonstone,’ or ‘ Pearl.’ If you have a light/medium to dark skin tone I recommend Opal. If you’re dark to super dark, I’d recommend the shade ‘Topaz.’ It is a fairly expensive highlighter, so lemme warn ya. If you’re expecting ya know like $20 the most, cause that’s average, well I would have $42 handy. It’s $38. Yup, my heart stopped too. It took me literally a whole year to just go ahead and buy it but let me tell you, this will GLOW YOU UP.
On the bright side, this highlighter lasts me about 3-4+ months. I use it about 4-5 days a week when I’m going to work so you get a lot of use out of it!
If you don’t wanna fork over the $42 like me, Laura Geller makes some great highlighters and her shade ‘ Gilded Honey,’ is a pretty close dupe to Becca’s ‘ Opal.’
You don’t get as much product, and it’s a little too smooth in my opinion, and definitely not as shimmery, but it’s a great highlighter to ease your way into a drag queen glow like Becca. I think hers is in the $20-32 range.
I like to apply my highlighter with a small fan brush. Nyx, Wet ‘n wild, and Sephora have some great options! I think Elf even has some really great and cheap brushes as well.
If you decide to try this highlighter out, let me know by leaving a comment below of your thoughts on it! If you need help picking a shade out, just shoot me a message and I’ll get back to you ASAP!
Have a blessed Tuesday!
1 Peter 3:3-4
3 Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. 4 Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
